Person-Centered Therapy for Children

A safe, friendly place to talk, play, and be yourself.

Person-centered therapy gives children a calm, caring space where they can share their feelings—through talking, playing, drawing, or any way they’re most comfortable. The therapist listens closely and helps children feel understood, supported, and accepted just as they are.

How It Works

Children choose what to talk or play about.
The therapist follows the child’s lead.

Every feeling is welcome.
Happy, sad, confused, excited—nothing is “wrong” or “too big.”

No pressure or judgment.
Children can relax and be themselves.

The therapist is a safe grown-up.
Someone who listens, cares, and helps children explore their feelings at their own pace.

Why It Helps Children:

Feel Safe and Comforted
Kids have a place where their feelings are heard and taken seriously.

Understand Their Feelings
Talking or playing helps children make sense of what’s going on inside.

Grow Confidence
As children feel understood, they learn to trust themselves and express their needs.

Build Stronger Emotional Skills
Children become better at naming feelings, calming themselves, and solving problems.

Be Their True Selves
Person-centered therapy gives children room to be honest and real—without fear of being judged or corrected.

Person-Centered Therapy for Teens

A safe space to be yourself—and discover who that really is.

Person-centered therapy is about giving you a place where you can talk openly, honestly, and without judgment. Instead of telling you what to do, your therapist listens, supports, and helps you understand your feelings, your values, and what matters most to you.

It’s a space where you don’t have to pretend or act “okay.” You can show up exactly as you are.
You lead the conversation.
We follow your pace and talk about what you want to talk about.

You’re accepted as you are.
No criticism, no pressure—just understanding.

You’re supported, not directed.
We help you make sense of your feelings and choices, without telling you who to be.

Why Teens Find It Helpful:

Understand Yourself More Clearly
Sharing your thoughts in a judgment-free space helps you figure out what you’re feeling and why.

Build Confidence in Your Own Voice
Instead of relying on others’ opinions, you learn to trust your own perspective.

Feel More Emotionally Grounded
You become better at handling stress, big emotions, and difficult situations.

Improve Relationships
As you get clearer on yourself, communicating and setting boundaries becomes easier.

Find Your Authentic Self
Person-centered therapy helps you notice where you might be performing, pleasing, or hiding parts of yourself.
It gives you room to explore who you are—your identity, your values, and what feels true—so you can grow into a more confident and authentic version of yourself.

Hi, I’m Tina. I’m a registered clinical counsellor with a deep passion for supporting children, youth, and families through life’s challenges. With over 20 years of combined professional and volunteer experience, I’ve walked alongside individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, identity, and change; always with empathy, respect, and a person-centered approach.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and specialize in trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and collaborative support. Whether I’m working one-on-one, in schools, or with community organizations, my goal is to create a safe space where people feel heard, valued, and empowered to grow.

I believe healing happens in relationship, with ourselves and with others. My practice is grounded in cultural humility, curiosity, and the belief that every person has the capacity for resilience and transformation.

Outside of counselling, I’m a youth mentor, and an advocate for inclusive mental health education. I’m based on Salt Spring Island and offer both in-person and virtual sessions
